canva.com

Insomnia is a very common sleep disorder characterized by difficulty falling asleep and insufficient sleep duration. For some, insomnia lasts for several days or weeks, while for others it lasts for a longer period of time, even several months.

People who suffer from insomnia regularly do not get enough sleep. The sleep duration recommended by experts is 7-9 hours.

No matter how often you experience insomnia, acupressure, whose scientific name is acupressure, can provide relief. It is believed that certain biologically active points are responsible for certain aspects of a person’s physical and mental health. As a result of physical pressure on the points, they become activated.

Read further about 5 active points, massage of which will help you get rid of insomnia. You will also learn some interesting facts from scientists about acupressure.

Rules for acupressure for insomnia

In Eastern medicine, acupuncture is widely used to combat insomnia.
Eastern healers pass on knowledge of where a person’s sleepy spots are located from generation to generation, and have been actively practicing the technique for many hundreds of years. We propose to master acupuncture, which is accessible to all adults and is very effective. The main thing is to apply it systematically.

It is always important to start a massage for insomnia by warming up your hands. Only then can you start searching for the desired point.

The desired sleep point makes itself felt with a feeling of slight numbness and aching. Then you can proceed directly with the manipulation, performing it with your fingertips. Usually the thumb, middle and index fingers are used. The second and mandatory step is kneading the skin. Massaging movements should be smooth, gentle, but at the same time persistent: gradually it is important to increase efforts, as if pressing the fingertips into the soft tissue. There is no need to feel sorry for yourself: pressure should feel painful (tolerable). Did you find where the sleepy spot is? Massage it harder, and then gradually slow down. Circular movements are best for soothing. You shouldn’t be too zealous when massaging before bed: just apply pressure for 7 seconds and make 3 to 5 “approaches” to one point. Increased heart rate, nausea, profuse sweating and other unpleasant sensations should be a reason to stop manipulation.

Do not forget that good results from acupressure sessions are not always obtained from the first days. That is, you will not be able to fall asleep like a baby after the first procedure. As practice shows, only after 5-7 workouts a person begins to feel his body better, feels a beneficial effect, and always answers questions: I sleep very soundly.

How to fall asleep

Traditional ways to fall asleep:

  • read a book;
  • listen to music;
  • count sheep;
  • take a warm bath with herbs;
  • drink warm milk.

Sleeping pills do not help everyone and cause side effects: lethargy, heaviness in the head, dry mouth. The effect may not occur for a long time, and then be felt for a long time. Therefore, using sleep tablets is not very convenient.

Tips for performing acupressure massage for insomnia

Targeting acupuncture points for insomnia affects different people differently. Sometimes massaging acupuncture points several times is enough, and sometimes a person does not see any improvement even after the 10th session

In this case, you should pay attention to concomitant diseases, due to the presence of which insomnia may appear. If this is indeed the case, then you should pay attention to eliminating the root cause

They may be:

  • back pain;
  • migraine;
  • heart diseases.

Research shows that hot spot massage is indeed very effective and can be performed by almost anyone. If you have insomnia, you should do it 10-30 minutes before going to bed.

The massage should be carried out in a well-ventilated room, in silence, in a comfortable environment for the person. To eliminate insomnia, you must also adhere to certain rules - always go to bed at the same time, preferably no later than 23.00. It will be good to use essential oils during massage. Individually selected compositions of essential oils help you cope with insomnia and put you in a calm mood.

To speed up the process of treating insomnia, you should use an integrated approach, not limited to just massaging active points, in which case the result will come much faster. Acupuncture massage is used not only to eliminate insomnia, it also has a positive effect on the human body in many other diseases.

Nei guan point – “inner gate”

healthline.com
The Nei Guan point is located on the forearm between the tendons.

For insomnia:

  1. Turn your hands palms up.
  2. On one hand, measure a distance equal to three times the width of your thumb down from the wrist crease.
  3. Using deep pressure, use circular and up-and-down movements to massage this point for 4-5 seconds.

Activation of this point also eliminates nausea, relieves stomach pain and soothes headaches.

Atmosphere for massage

If insomnia strikes unexpectedly, and urgent measures need to be taken, then there will be no time for the atmosphere. The person will begin to remember acupressure techniques and massage the fingers, neck or area behind the ears. If this is a real daily ritual aimed at relieving long-existing muscle spasms and manifestations of anxiety, then you should prepare for it.

Music

If everyone has their own musical tastes, then for a massage against insomnia you need soothing tracks in ethno style, sounds of nature, Russian or Chinese motifs. There are ready-made compositions on the Internet that are called “music for massage.” Deafening, stimulating tracks such as rock and roll or techno are not recommended. Otherwise, there is a risk that after such songs insomnia will begin after the massage.

Aromatherapy

Pairs perfectly with massage for insomnia. You just need to choose the right incense that will not cause cheerfulness, but will calm the nervous system. This is for example:

  • lavender;
  • chamomile;
  • incense;
  • geranium;
  • patchouli;
  • cedar.

These can be fragrant sticks or essential oils. It is not recommended to mix aromas, because they can give off a heavy odor that will be unnerving. It’s better to focus on one thing that leaves positive emotions. The oil can be poured into an aroma lamp or simply applied to a cotton napkin and placed next to you.

Subsequently, it may turn out that massage for insomnia is no longer required. Aromatherapy alone is enough: a person will smell the smell, unconsciously remember a wonderful pastime, and fall asleep to it.

Where and how to massage

It is acceptable to do this in a private bedroom, so that such a pleasant and calming event is associated with rest and sleep. You can sit or lie down on the bed, turn on pleasant music, dim the lights, light the aroma lamp and throw all thoughts out of your head. Try to tune in to relaxation or concentrate on massaging one or another point on the body for insomnia.

If the massage for insomnia is performed by a stranger, then conversations will be unnecessary. The massage therapist can tell you something monotonously, but you don’t need to answer him. This is a common method, proven more than once in practice, when students fall asleep while a teacher is speaking, employees fall asleep during meetings, etc.

What to think about

Massage is always a relaxing process. And when it is performed with the aim of getting rid of insomnia - even more so. And during the massage you need to make an attempt to relax not only the body, but also the thoughts as much as possible. If you can’t not think about anything, you need to remember something pleasant. You can also try to count, slowly and measuredly: 1, 2, 3... And it’s not at all necessary to imagine sheep. You just need to get into the rhythm.

Not only chronic insomnia is dangerous for the body, but also one-time cases. Lack of sleep can seriously affect a person's physiological and psychological health. And it’s not a fact that the next night you will be able to rest for the previous one. Insomnia can very quickly become chronic, because the reasons for its provocation overlap one another. Lack of sleep, exhaustion, nervousness, difficulties at work or in the family, lack of sleep - a vicious circle is formed, from which you can get out with the support of massage.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is known by another name - acupuncture, which involves inserting special needles into specific areas.

The technique has spread from Chinese medicine and consists of applying thin needles to the points of concentration of vital energy.

Acupuncture points for helping with insomnia coincide with acupressure points.

Important! Acupuncture must be performed by a highly qualified professional, since improper placement of needles can cause irreparable harm to the body.

Types of massage for insomnia

Massage can help both at one time and as a course event. That is, if a person goes to bed, but cannot fall asleep, it is recommended to massage certain points, after which sleep will gradually come. If you have systematic insomnia, you should regularly visit a massage therapist (or do self-massage) so that the effect accumulates and the impact is more powerful.

There are many types and techniques of massage for insomnia. The choice of one method or another depends on one’s own capabilities, preferences and desires, as well as on medical prescriptions.

Massage room

In this case, you don’t need to invent anything. The patient simply undergoes an examination; The doctor determines the causes of insomnia and prescribes massage as a physiotherapeutic treatment method. What kind of technique it will be and what area it is aimed at will be determined by a specialist.

If a person chooses a private massage therapist without first seeing a doctor, then it is better to focus on a general relaxing massage. Although it wouldn’t be a bad idea to consult with a massage therapist, because often a person in this profession has a medical education.

Home massagers

Having such a device at home is useful, but you need to use it only according to the instructions. Usually the annotation specifies which area needs to be treated with a specific massager in order to get rid of insomnia or simply relieve general tension. Practice shows that most often this is the area of the cervical collar.

With your own hands

If you don’t have a massager, you can try to do it yourself. A person cannot massage all parts of the body on his own, and the force of pressure will not be the same as if a specialist did it. Therefore, all you can do on your own is massage your neck and head. If this is enough, great. If not, you need to choose another method.

Hydromassage

Those who like to spend a long time in the shower receive hydromassage every day, because the sharp jets perfectly massage problem areas. This also helps with insomnia, because the water calms you down, and staying in the shower gives you the opportunity to be alone with yourself and your thoughts, and temporarily forget about worries.

At night, it is useful to take a warm or hot shower, which will steam the body and relieve muscle tension. The pressure must be significant so that, in addition to heat, a mechanical effect is felt. And you need to stand under such a shower for at least 15 minutes, otherwise there will be no effect. Additionally, you can use soothing body products, such as lavender soap.

Contraindications

Persons with vascular diseases, any neoplasms, changes in blood pressure, or urolithiasis will have to refuse treatment of insomnia using acupressure.
For a while, you will have to choose other means for sleep if the temperature has risen, ulcers have appeared in the area of stimulation, or there is an inflammatory process in the body. If you have a history of thrombophlebitis, it is not recommended to work with points on the lower extremities. In case of damage to the gallbladder and its ducts, the possibility of using the technique should be agreed with the attending physician. Doctors categorically prohibit patients from independently stimulating bioactive points using acupuncture needles. This approach is indeed considered a more effective treatment option for insomnia, but it comes with significant risks. To carry out safe and effective treatment, you need to know the human anatomy very well and have experience in working with the instrument.

Regularly performed acupressure massage for insomnia can become an effective and affordable cure. The approach is acceptable at any age, has a minimum of contraindications, and does not produce side effects. The main thing is to take into account all the specific aspects of the direction, and do not forget about the principles of organizing healthy sleep.

Why can a person have a massage?

If a person correctly massages the points during insomnia, it will be possible to significantly improve the effect of folk recipes, which can also be used for insomnia. At the same time, in order to restore full biological sleep, you do not need to see a doctor, since acupuncture for insomnia is often performed independently.

After all, acupuncture massage is not capable of harming human health, which means it can be used without the testimony of a specialist. The main thing before carrying out the technique is to familiarize yourself with its contraindications.

As a rule, massage on special points is carried out immediately before going to bed. First you need to teach your body to relax - then this technique will bring a lot of benefits to a person.

To begin with, you should perform 2-3 exercises to prepare your own body, after which the technique is done according to the plan, which you can familiarize yourself with in the photo or video. They will also help you understand the technique and rules of massage, so that later it can be repeated correctly.

Of course, massage, which is performed on the whole body, has a great effect, but even the shortest technique will improve overall health, help relax the body, and also protect human health from the development of psychosomatic diseases.

What is the secret of acupressure? It is quite simple - on the body of each person there is a huge number of biologically active points (thousands), which can have a direct effect on systems and organs.

The location of such points has been calculated over the years by many Eastern doctors, who today can boast of maps of their location. Each point responds to a specific internal organ or system, so if you learn to stimulate it correctly, you can get the following effects:

  • complete muscle relaxation;
  • relieving vascular spasms, which often cause lack of sleep;
  • decrease in pressure;
  • relieving a person of nervousness, depression and anxiety;
  • elimination of conditions that cause migraine;
  • improving blood circulation in veins and capillaries.

All the effects described above are exactly what is required in order to say goodbye to insomnia and regain normal and healthy sleep. After all, they completely prepare the body for rest.

By correctly finding acupuncture points and performing self-massage, you will be able to turn off your brain and protect it from negative information. Thus, brain activity will decrease, which will have a beneficial effect on the quality of sleep.

And if you combine this technique with taking folk recipes, you will be able to quickly relax and restore night sleep.

Why can't I sleep

The following are the reasons for poor sleep:

  • annoying noise;
  • light in the room;
  • temperature – too hot or cold;
  • smells;
  • uncomfortable bed – too soft or hard mattress or pillow;
  • anxiety disorders;
  • stress;
  • depression;
  • apnea, snoring;
  • side effect from medications;
  • age-related changes;
  • hormonal changes;
  • jet lag;
  • chronotype "owl".

Insomnia in the evening is accompanied by daytime sleepiness. Changing time zones causes a disruption in the biological clock - jet lag. “Owls” hardly manage to go to bed on time in the evening, but sleep does not come. Getting up early in the morning right after the alarm goes off is an impossible mission.

If a person sleeps poorly, it means his conscience is tormenting him. The common saying has some truth. Fears, internal experiences, unspoken grievances, obsessive thoughts make you toss and turn. If negative emotions are recorded in the subconscious, the night brings fragmentary sleep with a series of nightmares.

People who work mentally have difficulty falling asleep. It is difficult for them to stop the developed mental activity. Lying in bed, they go through versions, hypotheses, possible solutions to problems, storylines. Often writers and scientists work at night, being in the state of a sleepy fly during the day.

Causes of insomnia

Insomnia often appears due to provoking factors, and it is extremely important to identify what exactly caused the sleep disorder. It will be important to eliminate the cause so that you can get rid of the problem

Experts identify a number of factors that in most cases can provoke insomnia.

Main reasons:

Anxiety states. A person may experience stress or nervous tension due to conflicts, work, study and other situations. As a result, it can be quite difficult to sleep at night.

If this condition occurs constantly, then it is important to consult a specialist.

Taking medications. If a person takes medications, some of them can lead to sleep disorders

Side effects should be considered before taking a specific drug.

Various diseases. Even a common cold, which causes intoxication of the body, can lead to insomnia

For this reason, it is extremely important to treat pathologies in a timely manner so as not to trigger them and suffer from negative consequences.

If there are suspicions of a disease, and it is not known exactly what exactly you are dealing with, then it is important to undergo a medical diagnosis.

Heredity. If the parents suffered from insomnia, then the child may also experience this disorder.

Emotional and physical fatigue

It can cause lack of sleep, so it is extremely important for a person to normalize his condition and, if possible, not overload himself.

Regardless of the reason for insomnia, it will be useful to get a massage for insomnia. It allows you to improve a person’s well-being and normalize the processes occurring in the body.

It is recommended to contact a specialist who will provide professional assistance. If necessary, you can try the procedure at home, following certain recommendations.

Sleep and the dangers of lack of sleep

Regular lack of sleep increases the risk of many health problems:

  • Weakening the body's protective function
  • Excess weight
  • Decreased cognitive function (forgetfulness, inattention)

If insomnia lasts for several weeks, this is a serious reason to consult a doctor. It may also be a symptom of one of the diseases.

Many people face the problem of insomnia at least once in their lives. And if you're looking for natural remedies to improve your sleep, try acupressure before bed.

Acupressure and its principles

Acupressure (acupressure, shiatsu) can be classified as self-massage, but it is still a whole area of physiotherapy that requires detailed consideration. Official medicine classifies acupressure as reflexology. That’s how it is: by influencing biologically active points on the body, you can achieve relaxation in distant areas of the body or even the entire nervous system.

Acupressure is performed with the pad of any finger. You must first gently press on the point of influence, then make circular movements, increasing the pressure and pressing your finger into the body. The duration of exposure to one point is 2-3 minutes. The beauty of acupressure self-massage is that a person can independently control the force of pressure and avoid painful sensations. And to perform it you don’t need any special preparations: you can even wake up at night, realize that you can’t fall asleep again, remember which points to massage for insomnia, and have a short relaxation session.

Urgent acupressure

It is carried out directly 5-15 minutes before bedtime and does not take much time. These are just 5 points that are easy to remember.

  1. On the bridge of the nose between the eyebrows.
  2. On the top of the head.
  3. Below the chest line, in the middle of the sternum.
  4. On the wrist, closer to the little finger and to the beginning of the palm.
  5. Above the knee joint, on the inside.

It is better to massage these sleep points in case of insomnia in a lying or semi-sitting position. At the same time, you cannot resist the urge to fall asleep. If sleep comes even at the 2nd or 3rd point, you need to slowly stop the acupressure and relax.

Massage of individual areas

Reflexology is widespread in China, where this direction is developing. And over many centuries, several different acupressure techniques for insomnia have appeared there.

Foot

Yun Quan. The point is located on the foot. To find it, you need to squeeze your toes and look at the metatarsus. There will be a depression in the middle. This is the massage point for insomnia Yun Quan. It needs to be massaged according to all the rules of acupressure.

Back

A more serious Chinese technique for saving insomnia is hijam. This is both a massage and cleansing the body of toxins through the blood. Hijam involves bleeding on the back and extracting blood using vacuum cups. This is a very serious procedure that is performed only by specialists. There is an effect both from one hijama and from the course.

Neck

An Mian points (translated from ancient Chinese as “soft sleep”) are located in the recesses behind the ears. If you massage them for 5-10 minutes, insomnia goes away. You can also act on these points simply for general relaxation.

Thumb

According to the method of su-jok therapy for insomnia, you need to put an elastic band on the extreme phalanx of the thumb of either hand. It should tighten significantly, but not too much, so as not to impede the flow of blood. It is believed that such continuous pressure on this point can cause relaxation and speed up sleep.

Acupuncture

The same as acupressure, only the effect is performed not with soft fingertips, but with sharp needles. Acupuncture comes from Chinese medicine and is still used there today as one of the most common methods of treating a wide variety of diseases and illnesses.

But if acupressure allows you to perform self-massage, then acupuncture techniques are only subject to specialists. Still, the skin is pierced with needles, so only a doctor should do this. There are many more acupuncture points for insomnia, and an acupuncturist knows not only their location, but can also assess the depth of insertion of the tip.

Acupressure for sleep and what scientists say

Acupressure has been around for thousands of years, but only recently have experts begun to validate its effectiveness as a treatment method. Although the evidence base is not large, the research results are promising.

Thus, in one of the 2015 studies, which involved 25 patients suffering from insomnia, it was found that five weeks of acupressure solved this problem.

A 2011 study had similar results. 45 postmenopausal women complained of persistent insomnia. After a month's course of acupressure, their sleep returned to normal.

And although the number of such studies is growing every year, they are still not enough for experts to draw definite conclusions; it has not yet been possible to fully reveal or confirm the potential of active points. However, this method is worth trying.

Acupressure - a do-it-yourself technique

The Chinese believe that pressure on special points of the body activates the vital energy Qi, blocked by a person’s thoughts or actions. Pressing your fingers leads to the necessary relaxation and stimulates certain organs. The natural functions of the body are restored, and health returns to normal, problems such as the inability to sleep, insomnia, and lack of sleep go away.

Head massage

Head massage should be carried out for 3-5 minutes:

  1. The most active area is behind the ear, under the mastoid process, at the base of the skull. It should be massaged clockwise.
  2. The central point on the forehead between the eyebrows. It is responsible for the nervous system and perfectly calms, and also helps relieve headaches. Using the pad of your finger, perform massaging movements at this point; you can influence it with a light tapping movement.
  3. Deepening of the base of the skull. This area is responsible for negative emotions. It should be massaged clockwise.
  4. Symmetrical points at the base of the brow ridges. The impact should be applied by pressure. You can perform light acupressure of the eye sockets, from the inner corner of the eye to the outer, while gently stroking with the pads of several fingers.

Ears

The earlobes are massaged clockwise:

  1. A point in a triangular fossa located at the top of the ear. You should massage on both ears at once, you can apply light pressure. This point is responsible for the mental state, helps relieve stress and eliminate depression, improves sleep, relieves fears and panic attacks.
  2. The auricles are massaged with the pads of two fingers (thumb and index), while the ear is slightly pulled back, the massage is performed on both ears.

All movements on the ears are performed until a feeling of warmth arises.

Neck

Massage movements on the neck should be repeated several times until complete relaxation:

  1. The depression behind the ears, at the base of the skull. This point should be massaged with circular pressure.
  2. Perform light stroking movements from the base of the skull to the collarbone.

Stomach

Abdominal massage is recommended to be performed while lying on your back. At least 2 hours must pass after the last meal:

  1. Perform circular movements clockwise with your palm, lightly pressing on the abdominal area. Movements are performed around the navel.
  2. The point, located three phalanges below the navel, is massaged with the pad of the thumb. The massage should begin with light pressure, gradually moving to clockwise strokes.

Feet

Before foot massage, you can take a hot foot bath, this will improve blood circulation in the extremities and enhance the effect on the points:

  1. Extracanal point of the foot. To locate this point, you need to draw an imaginary line from the medial and lateral sides of the ankle to the sole, to the intersection of these lines on the midline of the sole (just above the center of the heel towards the toes). It can be massaged using pressing movements.
  2. Perform a massage of the toes, while applying pressure to the pads of the fingers, starting from the little finger and ending with the big toe. This exercise should be repeated several times.
  3. Find a point in the center of the foot, under the talus bone. First, apply light pressure on this point, then rotate clockwise. This effect reduces anxiety and normalizes blood pressure.
  4. The point between the metatarsophalangeal joints, 2 fingers below the divergence of the middle and ring fingers. It is recommended to press on this point for 5 seconds, then release. Repeat the movement several times.

Acupressure always works, but some people take a little longer to be effective. If you want to sleep during acupressure, you don’t need to restrain yourself, you need to finish the massage and go to bed.

Reviews on the use of acupressure for sleep problems

The unique acupuncture properties are evidenced by numerous positive reviews. To confirm the effectiveness of the technique, some of them should be considered.

Valentina, Nizhny Novgorod. I have been working in manufacturing for the last three years. The work is noisy and stressful, the schedule changes frequently and there are very few days off. Due to overwork and stress, I began to experience symptoms of insomnia. At first I took sleeping pills, but over time they stopped having an effect. On the advice of a friend, I decided to try acupressure. I did it myself and asked my daughter to help me in those points that are difficult to influence independently. The first results appeared after a couple of weeks of regular exercise. At the moment, my health has improved, but I still continue to perform self-massage every day before bed.

Mikhail, Moscow. I learned about acupressure from the Internet. At that time, I had been suffering from insomnia for ten years, I was depressed, and nothing helped: neither official medications, nor dietary supplements. I decided to try the technique because it turned out to be very ancient. And I must say that my health has improved. I won’t say that the insomnia completely disappeared, but after working out systematically, I was able to regain at least short-term sleep. Now I continue my studies, the progress is less noticeable, but it is there, and I am glad about it.

Thus, proper performance of acupressure makes it possible to effectively combat insomnia. Above was presented all the relevant information that will allow everyone to solve their sleep problems once and for all.

Where are the sleepy spots?

Where are the sleepy spots?

There are only 3 sleepy points on the human body. The first is located at a distance of approximately 1 cm from the outer corner of both eyes. In order to fall asleep, you need to massage it with two fingers. The second is located between the eyebrows. To doze off, you need to lightly press it with your index finger several times.

The third is located near the nostrils, about the width of a finger. To fall asleep, massage it in a circle. Sleepy points should not be confused with the places where blood vessels exit to the skin, blocking which by pressing with a finger will cause a person to faint rather than fall asleep.

How to put a person to sleep using your hands?

In different situations, it may be necessary to search for sleepy points and their location on the human body. Sometimes a person needs this skill in everyday life. For example, in order to calm a person who is intoxicated.

Even in ancient times, people knew that when certain points on a person’s body were pressed, he could fall unconscious. One of these points is located on the shoulder a little closer to the neck; pressing on it leads to loss of consciousness. The same thing happens when you press on the carotid artery. And this can be used as a way to put a drunk person to sleep.

Head and ears

First you need to rub your palms well and wash your face with the heat from them, running your hands over your cheeks and forehead 15-20 times. The point between the eyebrows should be massaged with the pads of the middle fingers (alternately), constantly moving upward.

Repeat 30 times with each finger (left and right hand). Next, you should move the pads along the eyebrows until slight pain becomes noticeable.

A very simple technique is to massage the earlobes, which are pinched between the thumb and forefinger and rubbed until completely warmed up. Using the same movements, the ears are kneaded along the entire length.

Neck

The paired points, which are located in the recesses below the ears, should be kneaded well with the index and middle fingers (15-20 repetitions). Repeat the same movements with the painful point located directly under the process of the skull (movement from the ears towards the back of the head).

Then all fingers except the thumb should be passed up and down the clavicular muscle. It is easy to identify if you turn your head and strain your neck: the muscle starts under the ear and ends right at the base of the neck.

Stomach

Abdominal massage is a great help not only for sleep disorders, but also stimulates the digestive processes. This is especially useful for feelings of slight heaviness, bloating and other ailments. You should move your palm clockwise and counterclockwise around the navel (20 movements in each direction).

Feet

Finally, the feet are massaged at the described points with the pads of the middle and index fingers. It is especially effective to do these exercises after steaming your legs in hot water - then the blood flow is especially strong, and the benefits from the session are greatest.

Combinations

You can work with all the points above or choose the following options:

  • Shen-ting, Yin-tang, Shen-men, San-yin-jiao.
  • Yin-tang, Da-lin, Bai-hui, Tai-si.
  • Tai-si, Shen-men, San-yin-chiao.

Work through them one by one or just one if it turns out to be effective.

The point of intersection of three channels - San-Yin-Jiao

healthline.com
The San Yin Jiao point is located on the inside of the lower leg at its back edge, just above the ankle.

For insomnia:

  1. Find the highest point of your ankle.
  2. From this point, measure a distance equal to four times the width of your thumb.
  3. Pressing gently, but without causing acute pain, gradually increasing the intensity, massage this point with circular movements or up and down movements for 4-5 seconds.

Activation of this point also helps with diseases of the pelvic organs and menstrual pain. Massage of this point is contraindicated during pregnancy!

Text of the book “Su-jok. Healing points of our body. Simple and effective"

Insomnia

A third of middle-aged people suffer from sleep disorders; we can say that this is one of the painful manifestations of this period of life. Systematic insomnia is most likely the result of mental overload. It is accompanied by many symptoms: pain in the head, pain in the heart, constipation or diarrhea, arterial hypertension, muscle pain, numbness in the fingers and even a “metallic” taste in the mouth. Treatment of symptoms in this case is ineffective; it is necessary to establish 7–8 hours of sleep. Su-jok uses specific points against insomnia, as well as therapy techniques that induce relaxation and promote healthy sleep. We will learn several techniques.

Harmonizing point on the right ear

Falling asleep is facilitated by a harmonizing point located on the earlobe (Fig. 41).

Pressure should be applied with the index finger while lying in bed, trying to achieve a state of rest. Pressure is carried out without increased energy, so as not to cause yourself any unpleasant sensations at night. Support the lobe with your thumb and make circular movements with your index finger. Pressing on the right ear is more effective than pressing on the left.

Abyss point

On the palmar side of the wrist fold, between the tendons of the flexor carpi radialis and the long abductor muscle of the 1st finger, outward and upward from the tubercle of the scaphoid bone, there is a point, which in Eastern medicine is called the point of accumulation or the point of the abyss (Fig. 42). If you skimmed through Chapter 4, you may have already used the area around this point to normalize your heart rate, since it is considered the main vascular area. And it is completely logical that the zone that calms the heartbeat serves for general calm, even to the point of falling asleep. Traditionally, it is also used for immediate taming of anger and for prolonged reduction of nervous excitability.

Use a wormwood cigarette to warm up the “abyss” for no more than 5 minutes. Wearing applications with a magnet or seeds for more than a day is not advisable if you are prone to bradycardia (heart rate less than 60 beats per minute).

Rest points on the foot

Anterior to the place of attachment of the calcaneal tendon to the heel bone is a point, the effect of which is associated with strengthening the vital spirit, instilling a feeling of peace, confidence and balance (Fig. 43).

Massage this point with a circular rotation and warm it up for about 15 minutes with a wormwood cigarette. And then separate the seeds of lemon, orange or grapefruit and attach the application for 1-2 days. By the way, you will not only regulate your sleep, but also be able to relieve pain from gout and inflammation of the ankle joint, and even suppress sciatica.

On the upper side of the foot, between the 1st and 2nd toes (more precisely, between their second phalangeal joints) there is a zone that is considered sedative

or
the calming zone
of the large canal of the liver (Fig. 43). And, as you know, the psychological state largely depends on the condition of the liver. After a light massage, warm the area with a moxa cigarette for 15 minutes and apply an application of poppy, flax or cumin seeds. Impact on this area relieves headaches, relieves tremors and fever.

Energy balance – even heat

Disease is always caused by an imbalance in energy balance. If a patient is vomiting or has excessive fermentation in the stomach, the doctor will say that there is too much energy - at least at the moment of unpleasant sensations. Vomiting happened to release energy. How to recognize what causes a particular disease - excess or deficiency of energy? After all, health techniques for excess and deficiency should be different! The dualism “yin – yang”, our dual nature, when applied to energy balance, is interpreted as follows: balance is equal heat. Excess yin is associated with diseases of cold and chills, excess yang is associated with diseases of heat.

Let's try to figure out how the dual nature relates to the zones of similarity on the palms and soles, that is, with our main objects of influence.

Yang and yin in relation to the surface of the body characterize the external and internal zones. Yang areas are the surface of the body and head at the back, the inner surfaces of the arms and legs. Yin surfaces include the face, chest, abdomen and the inner surfaces of the arms and legs.

For hands, the yang surface is the back (outer) side of the hand, and the yin surface is the palm. The boundary between the surfaces of the palm is easy to determine. With feet the situation is not so clear. The sole of the foot is considered to be a purely yin surface. On the outer surface of the foot, the yin and yang areas have a sharp demarcation. In Figures 44 (a, b, c, d), the yang region is highlighted in dark color.

How can we use the idea of yin and yang? Rapid pulse, fever, and hypertension are considered manifestations of excess yang energy. While a weak pulse and chilliness are attributed to an excess of yin energy, to cold diseases. For hypertension and fever with an increased pulse, actively work with the areas on the yin surface of the hands and feet (palm and sole of the foot) to increase yin energy. And gently, gently massage the yang surface of your hand and foot. This experience is successfully used by our neurologists and therapists in the fight against the insidious vegetative-vascular syndrome. We recommend rubbing, pinching, pricking the sole of the foot and immersing the foot in hot water as “distraction therapy.” Therapy is not just a distraction, it increases yin energy, thereby restoring balance. Be sure of this!

If your pulse is weak or you feel cold, actively rub the outer surfaces of your feet and hands. Most often, we instinctively do exactly this: we rub against the cold with a massage and even rub the outer surfaces of our legs with warming compounds.

On the other hand, if the cause of weakness is a recent “fever illness,” influenza, or another acute infectious disease accompanied by high fever, then even with subsequent lethargy and dystonia, we believe that the cause of the illness is an excess of yang energy. This is what we start from when restoring balance. If this seems too complicated for you, then just use a few of the techniques below - for exhaustion after illness, to increase your ability to work, to achieve balance.

Massage of the five meridians for physical and nervous exhaustion

For nervous exhaustion, weakness, lethargy, loss of strength after suffering infectious and viral diseases in the body, massage of the five large channels originating on the foot is used. The location of the 5 energy channels of the foot is shown in Fig. 45. The impact occurs as follows:

1.

We clasp the patient's foot with our palms, and place our fingers along the canals with a comb. At the same time, with all ten fingers, we press hard on the central channel, then on the lateral ones. After this, with a pressing movement of the thumb we go through all five channels. As a result, the flow of energy through the foot is stimulated and its flexibility is simultaneously improved.

2.

Extend and stretch all fingers with arbitrary movements.

3.

We stimulate the birth of energy when there is a lack of it. The energy generation zone is located at the upper edge of the ear. Massage sequentially with an open palm, first the left and then the right ear.

Stimulating work capacity

The rhythm of the working day can be very stressful, and there is not enough time for rest. To create a “burst of strength” when performing responsible work, we stimulate ourselves with coffee or fashionable tinctures of ginseng and ginger. Without thinking at all that a few cups of tonic drinks against a background of fatigue are a potent remedy. Such a stimulator can cause arrhythmia. Su-jok has completely harmless ways to restore strength. We will try them immediately.

To overcome fatigue, we warm up a number of points on the Yin and Yang sides of the palms and feet along the projections of the middle lines with a moxa cigarette. Impact on these points increases the vitality of the body and stimulates a rapid flow of strength. The most effective way to reheat is to set a mini moxa on a garlic slab. That is, place thin slices of garlic on the palm of your hand and lower a lit wormwood pellet onto them for 1 minute.

Eastern medicine in this case takes into account the differences between the energy of men and women. Women place an even amount of moxa on the inner side (yin side) of the left palm or foot (Fig. 46, a). And men use an odd amount of moxa on the outer side (yang side) of the right foot and right palm (Fig. 46, b).

Following the central points of the palms and feet, the points corresponding to the pituitary gland, thyroid gland and navel

(Fig. 46, c). In Eastern medicine, the navel is considered one of the main areas of energy storage. This procedure should be performed every other day before going to bed. The prolonged action of su-jok is supported by applications with metal stars and seed therapy with radish, rose hip, millet, and bean seeds on the pituitary gland and navel areas.

Certain areas of the body are particularly important for replenishing energy. They are called "cinnabar field" or "body pill field." Ancient teachers and modern practitioners define their areas of the “cinnabar field”: between the eyebrows, in the solar plexus and others. To restore energy, we chose the navel area, since it usually does not have an undesirable effect on the functioning of the brain, internal organs of the chest and abdomen. You can influence the projection of the navel with a massage until a feeling of warmth appears.

The importance of the thyroid gland area in reflexology

Reduced thyroid function (hypothyroidism) provokes rapid withering of the skin, dry hair, and brittle nails. These are external signs of hypothyroidism, but inside the body it threatens with much more serious troubles: shortness of breath, palpitations, impaired digestive function, menstrual irregularities in women, obesity, early manifestations of atherosclerosis, decreased memory, slowed mental processes (thinking and speech).

To stimulate the activity of the thyroid gland, at the joint of the middle phalanx and the base of the thumb (Fig. 46, c), you need to press on its area with a probe, a nail, or the head of a pin five times for 3 seconds. After a short break, perform two more series of pressures: 5 times for 3 seconds. This procedure for hypothyroidism is carried out daily.

Palms – area for cultivating energy

The palms are considered the most important area for receiving external energy. They work in the body like a sensitive antenna. It is with our palms that we can touch a tree at any moment, scoop up water, a handful of snow or earth, or shake the hand of another person. In addition to the fact that the palm perceives energy, it can nurture and strengthen it before sending it through energy channels. The practice of cultivating energy is considered very important in the East. Let's use this method of cultivating energy:

Sit on the edge of a chair or on the floor with your legs crossed cross-legged. The chin is slightly lowered to straighten the neck, and the head is, as it were, “suspended” by the crown (that is, the neck is mentally stretched upward). Eyes closed. The face is relaxed. To achieve relaxation, smile slightly. Hands folded at the navel: for women, the right hand is below, the left is above; for men it’s the opposite.

1.

We imagine and feel a hot ball under our hands.

2.

We try to examine this ball with our inner gaze. Let's turn our eyes inward. As if through a pipe, we look through the esophagus, into the navel area and from there to the hands.

The ball is red. If you observe another color, mentally color it glowing red. But never change the rule “It seems - I see, it seems - no”, otherwise the invasion of consciousness will be aggressive, not balancing. Practice this for half an hour. Then gently squeeze the glowing red ball in your palms and feel the energy spreading through your palm throughout your body.

State of balance

A state of balance means perfect control of energy. You can practice the state while walking and running. To do this, three psychological factors must be supported:

1.

During the movement, the back is straight, but the whole body is relaxed. “Cheerful relaxation”, without tension, but also without looseness.

2.

Attention is turned inward. The gaze is directed forward and performs only an “auxiliary” function: it protects against external collisions, without being carried away by extraneous stimuli. In short, there is no need to look around.

3.

We maintain an even emotional state. Outbursts of emotions and energy disrupt the practice of balance.

Physically entering a state of balance when moving:

1.

Running and walking should be leisurely and rhythmic.

2.

We lower the foot to the ground from the heel, with a noticeable impact. First the heel, then the toe. During the impact, the impact area is activated and the energy in the similarity zones is shaken up. The area of the kidneys and bladder is activated (in oriental medicine it is considered the main subject of healing).

3.

Upon contact with the ground, a feeling of balance arises: energy rises from the heel along the back of the leg to the back, then moves along the lower back to the front of the leg and falls to the foot. The feeling of rising and falling energy should become a habit and continue during any long movement.

Chapter 9. Quick help for various conditions

The Su Jok method can be used to quickly relieve pain and change conditions. When we have neither massage devices nor moxa with us, we are still armed, because we can influence any area of the palm with our fingers. And we can use nail pressure as a tourniquet.

Headache

For headaches, use the fingers of one hand to rub and knead the pad of the thumb of the other hand. Using a feeler gauge, a match, a pin head, or a metal key, we find the pain points on the pad and press on each point 10 times. We do the same for the other hand. If the pain does not go away immediately, we perform the same massage on the pads of the remaining fingers.

If the pain is concentrated in the temples, try massaging the “temples” of the thumb, on either side of the nail phalanx. And pain in the back of the head is usually projected under the base of the thumbnail, and this area needs to be massaged. For the location of similarity zones, see Figures 47, a, b.

Shingles pain

Girdle pain in the lumbar spine is usually associated with inflammation of the pancreas. In this case, we massage the corresponding areas (Fig. 48) with a probe or match for 2–3 minutes. After such a massage, the pain immediately goes away. And if you repeat it regularly for two to three weeks, you can achieve a slight decrease in blood sugar levels.

Pain in the lower abdomen of unknown origin

For periodic pain in the lower abdomen that has an unknown cause, we intensively knead zone 1 indicated in the figure, which is associated with the bladder, the uterus area in women and the prostate gland in men. Women should continue massage on the 2 zones that are associated with the ovaries. Regular massage of these similar zones will relieve cystitis, prostatitis in men and premenstrual syndrome in women.

Drowsiness

To quickly cope with drowsiness during a long and boring lecture, you need to rub the nail plate of the thumb on your left hand with the fingers of your right hand. To achieve full vigor, rub the nail plates of all fingers - drowsiness will go away completely!

Toothache

For toothache, we look for the correspondence zone around the nail plate of the thumb. The “dentition” is located at a distance of less than 2 mm from the nail along the entire perimeter (Fig. 50). The upper quarters correspond to the upper jaw, and the lower quarters correspond to the lower jaw. In this case, the upper and lower left (in the figure) quarters correspond to the right half of the oral cavity, and the right quarters of the figure correspond to the left half. It’s as if a finger is looking at us with its mouth open. The teeth in each quadrant are numbered from the first incisor (1) towards the wisdom tooth (8). Using a massage stick, probe, or toothpick, we find the area corresponding to the supposedly painful tooth and apply up to 25 pressures. By the way, su-jok masters use a similar effect to anesthetize both treatment and tooth extraction! But the main thing for us is to relieve the pain effect before visiting a doctor.

Fainting

Before the ambulance arrives, you can try to bring the patient out of a state of fainting by the following actions: lay the patient on a horizontal surface, placing his legs above his head and intensively rub the heart-like area at the base of the thumb for 2–4 minutes (Fig. 51).

Burning in the eyes

If your eyes burn from working with a computer, or the mucous membrane dries out, find the point that corresponds to your eyes on your thumb and massage it (Fig. 52). A regularly repeated procedure will improve the condition of the conjunctiva of the eyes and relieve tension in the eyeball.

Therapeutic atlases of zones corresponding to various organs and parts of the body on the palms and soles

Emergency help at the origins of the major meridians
We mentioned that 12 major meridians originate on the palms and soles and run through the entire body. The first points of the meridians are called the origins

, in oriental medicine they are used comprehensively as
emergency aid for critical conditions
. Because the channel energy in them flows very close to the surface of the body. It is said that exposure to the origins stimulates the vital spirit in critical conditions such as fainting, suffocation, convulsions, heart pain, poisoning, overheating and others.

Sources for the heart, liver, spleen, lungs and kidneys

Different source points are used for different organs. We are currently using sources for the heart, liver, spleen, lungs and kidneys. This means that in acute conditions associated with these organs ( suffocation, heart attack, high blood pressure, renal colic, bile duct spasm

), you need to sequentially influence a number of points:

Zone 1

located on the radial side of the thumb, slightly outward from the corner of the nail (Fig. 53, a). Traditional independent purpose of the zone: treatment of respiratory diseases; headaches, nervous diseases; vomiting, epigastric pain, convulsions.

Zone 2

located at the tip of the middle finger (Fig. 53, a). Traditional purpose: relief from heart pain, palpitations; treatment of nervous disorders, speech disorders; treatment of gastrological diseases (decreased appetite, vomiting, diarrhea); decrease in blood pressure.

Zone 3

located on the radial side of the little finger, towards the corner of the nail (Fig. 53, a). Traditional purpose: treatment of heart diseases (palpitations, pain in the heart area); relief from muscle cramps in the arm, pain in the forearm; treatment of nervous disorders; prevention of critical conditions (high temperature, loss of consciousness).

Zone 4

located on the inside of the big toe, at the corner of the nail (Fig. 53, b). Traditional purpose: treatment of bleeding (uterine bleeding, heavy menstruation, nosebleeds, hemoptysis); treatment of gastrological diseases (bloating, loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, pain in the epigastric region); treatment of nervous diseases; relief from respiratory diseases (cough, runny nose, suffocation).

Zone 5

located on the big toe, on the outside of the big toe, closer to the corner of the nail (Fig. 53, b). Traditional purpose: treatment of diseases of the epigastric region; improvement of sexual activity in men and women.

Zone 6

located in the middle of the sole, between the 2nd and 3rd metatarsal bones, in the depression formed when the toes are pressed in (in the depression in the middle of the sole, Fig. 53, c). The zone is used separately in critical conditions (poisoning, convulsions). And also for aching joints, headaches, palpitations, impaired kidney function, and nervous diseases.

Origins for the digestive and genitourinary systems

Sources for the digestive system and genitourinary system are used for acute digestive disorders, pain in the intestines and stomach, when stones pass through the ureter, for gynecological problems in women, for poor urinary discharge in men.

Zone 7

located on the radial side of the index finger, towards the corner of the nail (Fig. 53, a). Traditional purpose: treatment of febrile conditions; Relieving swelling due to impaired water metabolism.

Zone 8

located on the outside of the ring finger, close to the corner of the nail (Fig. 53, a). Traditional use: treatment of fever; improved hearing, relief of swelling of the mucous membranes and redness of the whites of the eyes; used for pain in the heart, headaches; to relieve acute vomiting and diarrhea.

Zone 9

located on the nail side of the little finger, towards the corner of the nail (Fig. 53, a). Traditional purpose: treatment of febrile conditions; improving hearing, relieving swelling of the mucous membranes of the eyes, treating infectious diseases of the conjunctiva; treatment of the mammary gland (decreased secretory function of the mammary glands after childbirth, mastitis); prevention of critical conditions (convulsions, loss of consciousness).

Zone 10

located on the outside of the second toe, towards the corner of the nail (Fig. 53, b). Traditional purpose: treatment of diseases of the stomach (decreased appetite, pain in the epigastric region) and gall bladder; treatment of inflammation of the mucous membranes, rashes on the skin of the face, prevention of edema; treatment of nervous disorders.

Zone 11

located on the outside of the 4th toe, closer to the corner of the nail (Fig. 53, b). Traditional purpose: relief from headaches, dizziness, eye pain (migraines), reduction of tinnitus due to pressure drop; prevention of nervous disorders; treatment of shortness of breath and fever.

Zone 12

located on the outside of the 5th toe (Fig. 53, b). Traditional purpose: treatment of headaches in the back of the head and crown, pain in the eyes (migraines); treatment of foot pain; reduction of irritability.

Why acupuncture is better than sleeping pills

As you can see, insomnia can be caused by a thousand reasons, the general name of which is disharmony within the body. To improve sleep, you need to find and correct the cause. Do sleeping pills do this? Of course not.

Sleeping pills seem to make the body sleep. But insomnia returns as soon as you stop taking the medications - and you can’t take them for a long time, they have serious side effects.

Such unnatural sleep does not give the body proper rest, and most importantly, it does not eliminate the real cause of insomnia. I'm not even talking about the fact that these drugs themselves are not harmless to the body.

Acupuncture can help relieve symptoms that keep you up at night. It launches the natural process of self-healing of the body, in which many problems are solved as if by themselves. All body systems are strengthened: nervous, digestive, cardiovascular, endocrine, immune. Sleep improves naturally.

The effectiveness of acupuncture is also confirmed by Western medicine. Acupuncture has been shown to release peptides that provide pain relief and relaxation. In addition, the needles stimulate neurohormonal pathways, releasing beta-endorphin feel-good hormones. Acupuncture also increases levels of the amino acid GABA, which acts as a neurotransmitter and promotes relaxation.

Well, from the point of view of Chinese medicine everything is simpler
